My first and possibly only political post

I wrote this in response to a friend’s FB post about how the media was not reporting on a peaceful protest march by a large group of people but focused instead on the violent one by a much smaller group. It took a while to write. And since this is NaNoWriMo, probably should contribute to my word count but it doesn’t so I’m posting it here to show that not all of my writing is novel related.

“The sad part is that there are both kinds of protesters after an open free election following the laws of this country. I wasn’t going to be happy if either major candidate won but I’m not out in the streets. Every legal citizen of age in the nation had the opportunity to vote. The current system has been in place since the founding of our nation 200 plus years ago. While the outcome is not desired by slightly more than half the country according to the latest numbers by popular vote, it does not change the outcome.

If people want change then they need to work within the system to change it. Elect Senators and Legislators who will work to make sure the election rhetoric never makes it into law. Which I’m sure will happen if Trump goes crazy, at the next election Democrats will take a lot of seats.
We are still a Republic, not a true democracy. States are supposed to have rights that can override Federal laws. Which is why Obamacare is an abomination in that it takes away States rights and citizen rights. Personally, if we aren’t going to go with popular vote (which we shouldn’t based on our Republic government make-up) then we should divide electoral college votes per state by percentage of the top 3 vote receiving candidates to the nearest 10%. This way if the Dem candidate gets 49% and Rep gets 50% and 1% is taken by a 3rd party, then the votes for the state are split in half for Dem and Rep. It is a truer representation of the will of the people and ballot-stuffing fraud would need to be extreme to make any difference. 3rd parties that do well could make an impact in the outcome unlike now.
This year in Utah, Trump would get 50% of the votes, Hillary 30% and Evan McMullin 20%.
Although I will not infringe on people’s right to peacefully demonstrate that they aren’t happy about the outcome, those who are destroying property and battling police should be arrested. We should never condone violence. Unfortunately, the media is more about ratings and keeping people interested these days instead of reporting the facts.”
This is the Novel Mage saying, *POOF*
