Brace for impact!

In accordance with the guidelines for this little blog hoppy thing (see below for details), I’ve pondered the topic of what sci-fi or fantasy has had an impact on me. Two series come to mind. First, The Foundation Series by Asimov. He wrote a story with some of the coolest tech but it isn’t about the tech. The story is about the people. He masterfully creates a story that spans a galaxy and yet it is all very personal. I own all of the books (including the two prequels) and read them through on occasion.

The second is the Xanth series by Piers Anthony. Story-telling can be fun. It can be punny. You can laugh in the middle of a serious story and it’s ok. This has had a profound effect on my own writing as I like to put humor that goes with the story. Life isn’t serious all of the time. Laughter is a defense mechanism. All you need to know is what a lie-berry bush looks like, where to find a pie tree and never let anyone see your underwear.

This is all related to LTUE. Life, The Universe and Everything is a writing convention that is held every year in Provo, Utah. The magic is thrilling, the people are weird (which of course means I finally fit in) and the advice is epic. Don’t believe me? LTUE.org Come join the fun!

Oh and the blog hopper thing is this:
